It is with great sadness that we report the death of our Mayor Eugene H. Mayer. Mayor Mayer who we all know as Gene, passed away Wednesday morning at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City. Memorial services will be held Monday, July 14, 2008 in the Milford City Governmental Office at 12:00 p.m. Our thoughts go to his family and his many friends. We will deeply miss Gene and his dedication to our community and his love for the residents. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Eugene H. Mayer Trust Fund c/o Milford City, P.O. Box 69, Milford, Utah 84751.


In Celebration of Eugene Harold Mayer Our hero passed away July 9, 2008 at the age of 83 at the U of U Medical Center. He was born April 10, 1925 to Louis G. and Emma Suckut Mayer in Schafter, California. He married his sweetheart, Barbara Lewis, in Las Vegas, NV on March 21, 1947. He was currently serving as mayor of Milford and the groundskeeper at the local “Windy Five” golf course. He served many years in public service. Mayor of Milford from 1970-1973, 1986-1989 and again from 2000 until passing away, Milford City Council, Beaver County Commissioner, Little League Baseball Program, Milford High Community Council, Color Country RC&D, LEPC and Five County Boards. He also served on Gov. Cal Rampton Special Task Force. He retired from farming at age 47. He grew alfalfa, grain and certified seed potatoes. He loved the City of Milford and was always making it a better place. He was very well read and could talk on any subject. He taught his family the value of hard work, being honest and treating others with respect. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara, and by his children: Bruce Mayer (deceased), Ronald (Sharon) Mayer, Connie (Bud) Barnes, and Gary (Gina) Mayer. Also surviving him is 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and his son.
